The Larchmont Swim Club sponsors a competitive summer swim team that allows members 4-18 years of age to participate in competitive swimming in the Suburban Swimming Association. The season starts on the Tuesday after Memorial Day and ends approximately the last weekend in July. Early season practices are held in the afternoon and move to the morning when Mount Laurel Public Schools are closed for the summer. All swimmers and at least one adult parent/guardian must be full-time members of Larchmont Swim Club prior to starting practice. Registration begins on April 1 through June 6th at www.larchmontbarracudas.org .
All swimmers will register to be a member of the Larchmont Swim Team. New swimmers or returning swimmers who did not participate on the competition team last year are required to attend an evaluation once the season begins to determine appropriate placement within the swim program. Swimmers will be placed in one of 5 groups pending their evaluation or their participation the previous summer. Below are the different levels of instruction offered and expectations of each group.
Competition Group: Open to swimmers that are proficient in 3 of the 4 competitive strokes. These swimmers will practice 5 days a week and compete in swim meets on Saturdays.
Stingrays Group: Open to swimmers who are 9-11 years old with a strong freestyle ability who require further development in backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and diving. Weekly competition is not required.
Starfish Group: Open to swimmers who are 7-11 years old and can demonstrate basic freestyle technique but require further conditioning to enhance their abilities. This group will strengthen their freestyle abilities and begin to develop mechanics of other strokes. Weekly competition is not required.
Guppies Group: Open to swimmers 4-8 years old who can float independently and demonstrate a rudimentary form of freestyle. This group will begin to develop the fundamentals of freestyle. Weekly competition is not required.
Minnows Group: Eligible to swimmers 4-8 years old who can enter the pool without adult assistance. This group will develop a familiar relationship with being in the water. Weekly competition is not required.
